Depending on its habitat, this species can vary in form from a dense shrub 1.8m tall and spreading 4m, to a tree growing to 12m in height. Cream-yellow flower spikes to 9cm long appear in spring summer and autumn.

cultural notesA hardy plant that requires well drained soils. Prefers full sun but will tolerate some shade. Some forms will regenerate from a lignotuber after fire, others rely on seed.
