A small to medium sized tree growing to 30m in lowland areas. The alpine variety, E.p. niphophila, only reaches 15m. Bark is smooth and mottled, white, grey or yellowish in colour. White flowers in spring and summer. |

| cultural notes | Requires well drained soils in a sunny position. In cold areas the bark develops patches of orange, red, yellow and olive green. |
