A small to medium sized tree growing to 30m in lowland areas. The alpine variety, E.p. niphophila, only reaches 15m. Bark is smooth and mottled, white, grey or yellowish in colour. White flowers in spring and summer.

cultural notesRequires well drained soils in a sunny position. In cold areas the bark develops patches of orange, red, yellow and olive green.
toleratesDrought, frost and snow tolerant.

flower colourWhite flowers occur in clusters, from club-shaped buds. Fruit are cup-shaped.
foliage colourThe adult foliage is thick and leathery, blue-grey to olive-green, lanceolate to 16cm in length. Juvenile foliage is weeping and ovate.
