Eucalyptus viminalis

ribbon gum, manna gum

A large, fast growing tree reaching a height of 55m. Rough grey-brown bark at the base of the trunk, smooth, mostly white bark above. The upper branches shed bark in long ribbons, often left hanging from the tree.

cultural notesPrefers moist fertile soils in full sun. Drier conditions will stunt the growth of the tree.
toleratesFrost tolerant, moderately drought tolerant.
flowering seasonSummer and Autumn.
flower colourEgg-shaped buds are occuring in clusters are followed by small white flowers. The fruit are round with 3 or 4 projecting valves.
foliage colourThe adult leaves are glossy dark green, pendant, lance-shaped and 20cm long. The juvenile leaves are shorter and a dull green.
