Nursery and Garden Industry Awards

The Nursery and Garden Industry Awards recognise and praise outstanding businesses and individuals within the industry, who have shown excellent business practice in the past 12 months.  The ‘NGI Environment Award’ is a highly competitive award that is open to all industry businesses Australia wide.  It acknowledges business initiative in environmental management and community participation in relation to environmental issues.

Provincial Plants and Landscapes of Pialligo ACT and Wandella NSW was awarded the ‘NGI National Environment Award’ at the 2010 Nursery and Garden Industry Conference and Awards held in Darwin 23rd April, for its outstanding environmental business practices and initiatives. Provincial is also the NSW and ACT State Winner of this Award.

Lisa Roberts, Owner of Provincial Plants and Landscapes says “We strongly believe in making changes in our own backyard and our entire environmental ethos is based on this principle. This national recognition of our dedication to environmental business practices is an amazing achievement for our team.”

“Ideally the practices we are implementing are viewed as a benchmark by our peers across the country and we can inspire others to put extended environmental policies into practice. We aim to be a role model by showing that it is easy to be sustainable, successful and make a difference in the community – it’s smart business,” said Lisa.

Provincial Plants and Landscapes practice environmental strategies both internally and within the community. Practices in place include environmental audits to reduce their carbon footprint, certification as Carbon Neutral, use of renewable energy powers, making buildings energy efficient, rainwater harvesting, efficient watering practices, transport consciousness and efficiency, recycling and composting systems, growing and planting appropriate plant types, creation of ecologically sensitive landscapes, use of eco friendly products and methods and being pesticide and herbicide free.

In the community, Provincial Plants and Landscapes support a variety of environmental organisations like Landcare, Planet Ark, and the Natural Heritage Trust, and various schools and community groups with plant donations, sponsorships and work on local projects.

“The team at Provincial has an intrinsic attitude towards the environment and a holistic focus when interacting with their environment.  The systems and processes they have implemented complement their fundamental approach to air, soil, water, biodiversity, and habitat.  They continue their environmental journey daily and their achievements are a credit to hard work and commitment to their eco-ethos.” – NGIA judge’s comments.
