Description: This evergreen is most known for the use of its glossy green leaves as a flavour enhancer through cuisine. The bay tree is a hardy, small to medium tree with an oval or round canopy. It has reddish-brown bark and small fluffy yellow flowers that are produced in spring. Useful and beautiful!

Origin: The Mediterranean.

Cultural notes: Prefers full sun to part shade. This tree responds well to pruning. Fertilise in spring and autumn to promote growth. Water regularly, be sure to avoid ‘wet feet’, let the soil dry slightly between waters.

Tolerates: Is tolerant of sandy and salty conditions, perfect for coastal areas. Is tolerant of frost and wind.

Flowering type and season: The flower buds mature in springtime as small, yellow and fluffy all over the tree.
