Description: This is a large deciduous tree known for its thick trunk and dense canopy. This elm produces large ovate shaped leaves that are dark green, turning golden yellow through autumn.

Origin: Southern and Western Europe.

Cultural notes: Full sun is preferred. This tree will need ample soil space for its root system. Because of this, it is often used along watercourses to stabilise and maintain the soil.

Tolerates: Tolerant of frost and salty winds. Is tolerant of pollution.

Flowering type and season: Will produce small, insignificant red flowers in Spring, followed by samara fruit, a small winged seed.

Foliage type and colour: Foliage is dark green and ovate shaped. These will turn colours of golden yellow to orange in autumn before falling.

Soil type: Well-draining soil is preferred. Moist soils types are tolerated, including clay. Most pH levels are tolerated.

Width: Up to 15m

Height: Up to 40m

Recommended uses: Perfect for parkland as it creates ample shade due to its dense canopy.
