Description: A medium-sized deciduous that grows fast in a V-shape with ascending branches. It has noticeable bark that’s flaky in texture and colours of greys, browns, pinks and yellows. Foliage is dark green, turning yellows and reds through autumn.

Origin: Japan.

Cultural notes: Prefers full sun to part shade. Water in well when planting and keep moist until established.

Tolerates: Tolerant of heat and pollution. Will tolerate some drought. Can withstand compacted soils.

Flowering type and season: Insignificant.

Foliage type and colour: A dark green through summer and spring, turning shades of yellow and copper-bronze through autumn before falling. Cooler climates will promote more vibrant autumnal colours.

Soil type: Prefers well-draining, moist and fertile soil.
